Blogging tips and safety guide

BE SAFE:
  • Only identify yourself by your first name
  • Don’t be specific when writing about yourself never give actual details like names, addresses etc
  • Never give anyone your address, email address or phone number. You can keep in touch through the blog.
  • Never meet anyone face-to-face whom you only know online.
  • Never share your Internet passwords with anyone, except your parents or teacher.  

  • Talk to your parents and teacher about what you do online.
BE RESPECTFUL
  • Don’t say anything that might be offensive to someone else.
  • Be considerate of others. When commenting, show others that you have read what they have written rather than just saying “great job”. Give them pointers for future learning as well as a nice positive comment
  • Only post online what you would be happy to say to someone face to face 
  • Only use your OWN work - not stuff copied from the internet
BE LITERATE
  • You know about good grammar, spelling and punctuation. Apply it!
  • You are broadcasting yourself to the world. Present yourself in the best possible light.

  • Your writing made me think that we should…
  • I wish I understood why…
  • This is important because…
  • I don’t understand…
  • I was reminded that…
  • I found myself wondering…
 Possible POST starters:
  • What are you thinking about at the moment?
  • What has made you happy, angry or sad and why?
  • What exciting things have you learned?
  • Where have you been lately?
  • Start as if it was a story - hook in your reader!
